Golden Finance reports that on April 30th, according to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. government is calling on other countries to join a new international alliance to help ships pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. State Department sent an internal cable to embassies on Tuesday outlining this initiative called the “Maritime Freedom Construct,” urging U.S. diplomats to encourage foreign governments to sign relevant agreements. The cable states that a U.S.-led alliance will share information, conduct diplomatic coordination, and implement sanctions. The alliance will be jointly operated by the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Central Command, with the former serving as the diplomatic coordination hub and the latter providing real-time maritime situational awareness for commercial shipping and coordinating information sharing among participating military forces. When asked about this proposal, a senior administration official confirmed that this idea is one of many diplomatic and policy resources President Trump could leverage. (Jin10)
