In December of that year, a user calling himself "Pine" posted on Reddit: "I have more money than I could spend in my entire life" and pledged 5,057 BTC for charitable causes.
For over 5 months, he distributed $5 million to GiveDirectly to fight poverty in Africa, another $5 million to fund MDMA clinical trials for PTSD at MAPS, an additional $5 million to the Open Medicine Foundation, $1 million to the Internet Archive, $1 million to the EFF, $1 million to Charity Water, and other 54 charitable organizations.
He never revealed his identity and never claimed any tax deduction, despite that saving him millions.
Those 5,057 BTC are worth $394 million today.
