BTC 15-minute sharp decline of 1.29%: whales transfer 3,000 BTC to exchanges triggering short-term selling
Between April 29, 2026, 18:00 and 18:15 (UTC), BTC fell 1.29% within 15 minutes; the price dropped from 76262.2 USDT to 74941.2 USDT, with a swing of 1.73%. During this period, trading volume significantly increased, order book depth declined rapidly, and short-term price fluctuation magnitude was notably higher than normal levels, with the market’s attention rising sharply.
The main driving force behind this abnormal move was “whales” transferring large amounts of BTC to exchanges and concentrating on selling. On-chain monitoring data shows that around 3,000 BTC were transferred to a certain major exchange around 17:55, and the exchange’s BTC inflow saw a clear surge around 18:00, with net flow turning from negative to positive. Such large transfers are often interpreted by the market as potential sell-pressure signals, and sell orders at the thousands-of-BTC level directly impact market depth.
At the same time, there was no corresponding amplification in stablecoin net inflow during this period, indicating that fiat and off-exchange funds failed to replenish market liquidity in a timely manner and that the buyers’ ability to absorb was relatively weak. The decline in order book depth led to faster execution of sell orders, a reduction in buy orders on the book, and the formation of a short-term “seller-dominated” situation. Some smaller and medium-sized investors engaged in follow-on selling, further amplifying the downward price move and creating a resonance effect between on-chain behavior and market sentiment.
Attention should be paid to whether whale activity continues, how exchange fund flows change, and how buyers perform around the key support level of 75000 USDT. Current market liquidity is still insufficient, and short-term volatility risk remains high. It is recommended to monitor the pace at which the order book recovers and track on-chain fund movements, and to remain alert to the risk of liquidity exhaustion in extreme scenarios.
