Been thinking about which crypto to buy today if you're actually planning to hold long term? Honestly, if you've got $500 and you're new to this whole crypto thing, there's a pretty straightforward answer staring you in the face.
Bitcoin keeps winning because it doesn't try to be everything. No fancy new features, no wild promises about utility that might or might not pan out. It's just... Bitcoin. A digital store of value that does one thing and does it well. That simplicity is actually its superpower when you're thinking decades ahead.
Here's what makes it compelling: There will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin. Ever. Full stop. We're already at about 20 million in circulation, and the rest get mined out over time. But here's the kicker - the mining difficulty doubles roughly every four years. Supply gets tighter. Demand? Well, that's the bet you're making, but at least you know the math is working in your favor on the supply side.
You don't even need a whole Bitcoin to benefit from that scarcity play. With $500, you grab a fraction, and as the network keeps chugging along, that fractional piece becomes worth more (assuming people still care about digital stores of value, which seems like a reasonable assumption).
The other thing that's changed is accessibility. You can now grab Bitcoin through ETFs in a regular brokerage account or retirement account. No technical setup needed, no wallet software to figure out. That's actually huge because it means more capital can flow into it through traditional financial channels. Which crypto to buy today becomes easier when you don't need to be a tech wizard just to hold it.
Obviously, volatility is still there. Bitcoin can drop hard and stay down for a while. So this only works if you're genuinely comfortable not touching it for years. But if you are? Then which crypto to buy today for the long haul becomes pretty clear. The asset with the fewest ways to fail catastrophically if the world changes around it.
That's Bitcoin at $76K right now. Not flashy. Not exciting. Just the boring, defensible choice.
