just went down this crazy rabbit hole about the most expensive thing in the world and honestly some of these purchases make zero sense lol. like there's this $8 million dead shark in formaldehyde that an artist made? a literal preserved shark that sold for 8 figures. apparently it's considered fine art but i'm still trying to wrap my head around it.
anyway the actual most expensive thing in the world right now is supposedly this yacht called History Supreme that cost $4.5 billion. not even the biggest yacht ever made but it's got gold and platinum everything - like the entire structure is basically precious metals. three years to build. some malaysian businessman bought it and honestly at that price point you're not really paying for function anymore, you're just flexing.
then you've got the real estate side of things. this mansion in mumbai called antilia is worth $2 billion and it's just someone's house. 27 stories with helipads and a home theater. meanwhile there's a french riviera villa worth over half a billion. and jeff bezos has a beverly hills place for $165 million but apparently that's not even his most expensive property.
the art market is wild too - some picasso painting went for $104 million, but get this, there's another painting worth $275 million. The Card Players. owned by qatar's royal family. like that's just sitting in someone's collection.
what gets me is how these prices keep climbing. a pink diamond sold for $23 million, some fancy watch with 874 gemstones for $25 million. at some point you have to wonder what you're actually buying. like is the item worth that much or is it just worth whatever rich people decide it's worth? ๐ค
