Just realized the stock market was closed on January 9 last year for Jimmy Carter's funeral. Honestly didn't know they still do this kind of thing. Apparently when a former president passes, Wall Street just shuts down for the day as a sign of respect. Pretty interesting tradition if you think about it. They did the same thing back in 2018 when George H.W. Bush died, and before that for Ronald Reagan. So if you're wondering is the market closed for something like this, yeah, both NYSE and Nasdaq go dark. It's one of those rare moments where the whole financial world just pauses. Makes sense given Carter's legacy and everything he contributed. Kind of a sobering reminder that even the markets stop sometimes. Anyway, good to know for future reference in case you're ever caught off guard wondering why trading halted.
