Just read that House approved a $10M defense contract for MVP Robotics, this Vermont startup with only 23 employees. Pretty wild for a small business to land that kind of DOD funding. Rep. Becca Balint pushed it through, seems she's really backing local tech companies in her state. The company originally built tech for sports teams before pivoting to military applications, which is an interesting crossover.
Balint's been pretty vocal about supporting Vermont innovation and small business growth. Apparently she's worth around $1.6M according to recent estimates, and she's definitely putting her political capital where her mouth is with moves like this. Makes you wonder how many other small companies out there could scale up if they got similar backing. Dual-use tech like this seems to be the sweet spot right now—civilian and defense applications in one package.
