Just found out dogs can actually eat oranges and I'm kind of surprised? Like, I was about to share mine with my dog and looked it up first. Turns out it's totally fine in small amounts—one to three slices max per day. They've got vitamin C, fiber, and a bunch of minerals dogs need. Pretty cool alternative to regular treats if you ask me.
But here's the thing—you gotta be careful. Remove the peel and seeds first because apparently there's harmful stuff in there. And don't go overboard or your dog might get an upset stomach or diarrhea. The article mentioned that puppies might have it even worse since their digestive system is more sensitive, so if you've got a young pup, introduce it slowly.
One thing that caught my attention: if your dog has diabetes, skip the oranges. They're pretty high in sugar, which can mess with insulin levels. Probably worth checking with a vet before giving your dog any new food anyway, just to be safe.
Oh, and people keep asking about clementines—are clementines good for dogs? Yeah, they're basically the same deal as oranges. Same rules apply: peel them, give small pieces, and don't overdo it. They're a bit smaller so easier to portion out actually.
Fresh orange juice is okay too but only a few tablespoons mixed into their regular food. Skip the store-bought stuff though, way too much added sugar.
I'm definitely gonna try giving my dog a slice or two on hot days since they're like 90% water. Seems like a decent summer snack that's actually healthier than most dog treats. Anyone else doing this with their dogs?
