Just went through the whole credit card hunt with a 680 score and honestly it's way less depressing than I thought. Turns out you don't need to be in the 700+ club to get decent cards with actual rewards. Spent way too much time researching this so figured I'd share what I found for anyone else stuck in that 600-700 range.

Chase Freedom Unlimited is basically the unicorn if you're pushing toward 670. The cash back is ridiculous for a no-fee card — 5% on travel, 3% on restaurants and drugstores, 1.5% on everything else. First year you get an extra 1.5% on purchases up to $20k which is like $300 free money. But yeah, you probably need to be in the high 600s at least.

If you're lower in the 600s, Capital One's QuicksilverOne is actually solid. Yeah there's a $39 annual fee but you get 1.5% cash back on everything which basically covers it in like 3 months. The thing I liked is they'll review you for a credit line increase after just 6 months if you're responsible. That's actually useful when you're trying to build credit.

Petal 2 is wild because it has zero fees — no annual, no foreign transaction, nothing. You start at 1% cash back but it goes to 1.5% after 12 on-time payments. Credit limit starts between $300-$10k depending on approval. For people like me who are rebuilding, that's honestly the move.

Capital One SavorOne is another option if you're closer to 700 with decent other stuff going on. You get 3% back on groceries, streaming, dining and entertainment plus 1% on everything else, no annual fee. But you need to show you haven't been late on payments or had defaults recently.

Real talk though — just because you're below 700 doesn't mean you're stuck with garbage cards. These best credit cards for the 700 credit score range and below actually have legit rewards. The trick is being honest about where you're at financially and not applying for stuff you won't get approved for. Use their preapproval tools first so you don't tank your score with hard inquiries. Also different card companies have different standards so your mileage might vary.
