Just looked this up because I've been tossing my dog the occasional mushroom from my plate and honestly? It's more complicated than I thought. So here's the thing - store-bought mushrooms like baby bellas, portobellos, and white buttons are fine if they're cooked plain with no seasoning, but the nutrients don't really absorb well for dogs anyway. Raw ones can actually be mildly toxic, which I didn't know.

The real concern is wild mushrooms. Apparently vets think wild mushroom poisoning is way underreported in dogs, especially in spring and fall. If your pup eats one while you're out, it's basically an emergency situation.

Now here's the interesting part - medicinal mushrooms like shiitake, maitake, and turkey tail are actually legit beneficial. They've got immune-boosting properties, help with inflammation, support heart and liver health. Some people use them for dogs dealing with cancer or immune issues.

Bottom line for me: can dogs eat baby bella mushrooms? Sure, cooked and plain. But there's not really a reason to unless your dog has specific health needs. Better off sticking with safer veggies like carrots or sweet potatoes if you want to share snacks. The risk-reward just doesn't make sense for regular treats, you know?
