Just came across some interesting political finance data from the latest FEC disclosures. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reported raising $9.6M in Q1 of last year, which ranked pretty high among all the politicians filing that quarter. Pretty much all of it came from individual donors, no big corporate money. She spent about $5.1M during the same period and had roughly $8.3M left in the bank by the end of the filing window. When you look at Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's net worth, the estimates put it around $24.5K as of mid-April last year, which honestly is pretty modest compared to a lot of people in Congress. Apparently she's got basically no investments in publicly traded stocks that are being tracked. Makes sense given her public positions on Wall Street. The whole thing is a reminder of how different politicians' financial situations can be. Some of these net worth figures are wild when you compare them across the board. If you're curious about tracking this kind of stuff, there are platforms that keep live updates on politician finances and their fundraising numbers. It's the kind of data that doesn't usually make headlines but tells you something interesting about who's got money and where it's coming from in politics.
