US Court Sentences Cartier Descendant to 8 Years in $470M Crypto Laundering Case

A U.S. court sentenced Maximilien de Hoop Cartier to eight years in prison in a crypto laundering case that prosecutors said moved more than $470 million in drug proceeds. Cartier had pleaded guilty to operating an unlicensed money transmitting business and conspiracy to commit bank fraud. The court also ordered about $2.36 million in forfeiture and specific shell company bank accounts tied to the scheme.
