Just looked into some of the trading patterns from US politicians and found something interesting about Representative Shri Thanedar. The guy's sitting on around $41.5M in wealth according to financial disclosures, which puts him in the top tier of Congress wealth-wise. What caught my eye though was his trading activity over the past couple years.
Shri Thanedar net worth aside, his stock picks have been pretty mixed. He dumped a quarter million in APO back in early 2023 right before it exploded 113%, and another $100K in AXP that's up over 100% since then. But then there's the TSLA sale for $100K that's only up 5% and a CHRS position that absolutely tanked 90%. The dude clearly doesn't have a crystal ball like everyone thinks politicians do.
What's wild is tracking Shri Thanedar's actual trading data - we're talking $2.2M in documented trades from STOCK Act filings. He's been active across different sectors, buying and selling everything from tech to finance stocks. His most recent moves include trimming some Apple positions in early 2024.
Beyond the portfolio stuff, this representative's been pushing some bills through Congress, including healthcare-related proposals and tax code amendments. Campaign-wise, he raised about $46K in Q1 earlier this year and's sitting on around $6.1M in cash reserves according to FEC disclosures.
The whole thing is a reminder that even when you've got Shri Thanedar's net worth level of capital, timing the market is still brutal. Some trades print money, others... not so much. Anyway, you can dig into all this publicly available data yourself if you're curious about how politicians manage their portfolios.
