Been trying to figure out how to find cheapest gas lately since prices are still pretty brutal compared to last year. Stumbled on some actual useful tricks that don't involve just driving around wasting fuel looking for deals.
So here's what works: GasBuddy has this app that literally shows you gas prices at nearby stations by location. Geico also has a gas finder tool on their website if you want to search by address. Google Maps obviously shows gas stations around you with their prices listed. And Waze does the same thing. The key is just checking before you leave instead of randomly pulling into whatever station is closest.
Beyond just finding cheaper gas though, I've been looking at other angles. Costco and Sam's Club have discounted gas for members - could be worth it if you fill up a lot. Some gas stations have rewards programs where you get small discounts per gallon, which adds up. And honestly, just planning your routes better helps. Group your errands together, drive less often, make your tank stretch further.
Also been thinking about switching my credit card situation. If you're filling up constantly, a gas rewards card could actually save you real money with cash back. There are cards out there with decent rewards rates and no annual fee.
Basic rule though: don't waste gas hunting for the absolute cheapest station. Do the research on your phone first, know where the deals are, then go get them. That's actually how to find cheapest gas without shooting yourself in the foot.
