So I was cleaning out my wallet today and started thinking... what if some of these old bills I've got are actually worth something? Turns out there's a whole thing with rare currency collecting and honestly some of this stuff is wild.
Like apparently certain $2 bills from the 1920s can go for thousands if they're in the right condition. The 1928 series with red seals? Some uncirculated ones fetch over $20k. Even circulated ones hit like $4 to $175 depending on condition. Then there's the 1976 Bicentennial series with printing errors or unique serial numbers that jump to $500+. And don't even get me started on 1995 star notes - some dealers list those at $500 for uncirculated versions.
But the real interesting part? The $50 and $100 bills. A rare 100 dollar bill from the 1966 red seal series can be worth $135-$169. Then there's the 1996 $100 star notes floating around worth $150-$350. And here's the crazy one - certain 2009A series rare 100 dollar bills with star notes or unique serials can hit over $1,100. The older $50 bills from 1934 or 1929 with brown seals are pulling $65-$100 depending on condition.
Obviously not every bill in your pocket is secretly valuable, but that rare 100 dollar bill or old $2 note could legitimately be worth more than face value. The condition, serial numbers, seals and how it was printed all matter. If you're actually curious about something you find, apparently you should get it checked by someone who knows currency collecting. Kinda makes you want to dig through old wallets and drawers now lol
