Today, Jerome Powell will hold his final FOMC press conference as Fed Chair

The Last FOMC Press Conference of an Era
Today (April 29, 2026), Federal Reserve Chairman (Fed) Jerome Powell will preside over his last FOMC press conference during his chairmanship. This marks an important milestone ending his 8-year leadership at the world's most powerful central bank. Powell's Fed Chair term officially concludes on May 15, 2026.
In the two-day meeting on April 28-29, #Fed is expected to keep interest rates steady at 3.50-3.75%. The market is awaiting Powell’s final comments on economic outlook, inflation, and future rate cut plans. Many analysts see this as an emotional farewell, as Powell led the Fed through the COVID-19 pandemic, peak inflation of 9.1% in 2022, and brought inflation back near the 2% target.
He #Powell được Tổng thống #Trump appointed in 2018 and reappointed in 2022. Although sometimes clashing with the administration, he maintained Fed’s independence. Potential successor Kevin Warsh – who previously criticized Powell’s policies – could bring a new direction, with a stronger possibility of aggressive rate cuts.
The press conference at 2:30 PM EDT (1:30 AM on April 30 in Vietnam time) will be closely watched by global investors. Any hints about monetary policy could cause significant volatility in stock markets, gold, #Bitcoin, and USD exchange rates.
Powell’s legacy:
- Successfully controlling inflation after a turbulent period.
- Maintaining high US employment levels.
- But also facing criticism for aggressive monetary tightening, putting pressure on growth.
Although stepping down as Chair, Powell may continue serving as Fed Governor until 2028. Today’s meeting is not only the end of a term but also the start of a new chapter for US monetary policy under Trump 2.0.
The #crypto and global financial markets are on edge. Will Powell’s “farewell” bring surprises? All will be revealed in a few hours.
