CoinWorld News, Tencent’s Hunyuan team has open-sourced the translation model hy-mt1.5-1.8b-1.25bit. The translation model with 1.8 billion parameters has been compressed to 440MB. After downloading, it can run fully offline on mobile phones. It supports 33 languages and 1,056 translation directions, covering Chinese, English, Japanese, French, Arabic, Russian, as well as minority languages such as Tibetan and Mongolian. The model uses Tencent’s self-developed sherry (sparse ternary quantization) technology and has been accepted for publication at ACL 2026, a top NLP conference. Tencent says that in translation evaluations, the model surpasses Google Translate and is close to the performance of models in the 235B class. It also provides a 2-bit version (574MB), with accuracy that is nearly lossless. The model weights, code, and technical report have been open-sourced on Hugging Face and the Modao community. An Android APK is included for direct installation and trying it out, and an iOS version will be released later.
