Trump Says Negotiations with Iran Are Ongoing by Phone

Jin10 Data, April 30th — U.S. President Trump stated on the 29th that the United States is negotiating with Iran via phone calls, while emphasizing that Iran must explicitly commit to completely abandoning nuclear weapons. Trump told the media in the Oval Office at the White House that the U.S. and Iran have been in dialogue, now communicating by phone, “no longer like before, where every time they wanted to see a document, they had to fly 18 hours to hold a meeting.” He said this method is very convenient, “I make a call, or have my people call, and within 15 minutes, we can get the answer,” but “I have always preferred face-to-face communication.” Trump said that negotiations have made some progress so far, but the question is whether Iran’s concessions can meet the U.S. requirements. “At present, unless they explicitly commit to completely abandoning nuclear weapons, there is no possibility for either side to reach any agreement.” (Xinhua News Agency)

Powell: Welcome the Department of Justice to cease investigations; will remain a director after stepping down as Chair
Jin10 Data, April 30 — Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said he welcomes the Department of Justice's announcement last Friday (to withdraw the investigation into Powell). Over the past weekend, the DOJ provided assurances that unless there is a criminal referral, the investigation will not be restarted. I will not leave until the DOJ investigation is thoroughly concluded. I will continue to serve as a director after May 15, with the duration to be determined, and will leave the Federal Reserve at an appropriate time. Will serve as a director in a low-profile manner.
