Canada Proposes Ban on Bitcoin and Crypto ATMs

Canada proposed banning Bitcoin and other crypto ATMs, even though Coin ATM Radar data estimates the country accounts for 10.1% of global machines. The Spring Economic Update 2026 said Canadians could still buy virtual currencies through brick-and-mortar money services businesses while standalone kiosks are phased out. The proposal follows FINTRAC analysis and a CBC investigation that linked the machines to scam payments and money laundering.
