Recently there’s been more arguing about whether secondary markets should pay royalties or not. To be honest, I’m also torn: if they don’t pay, it feels like creators are being ripped off; but if they force payment, it’s like you’ve throttled liquidity, and everyone just turns to more “clean” markets. More realistically, many projects talk about the creator economy in public, but in their contracts the permission controls and upgrade switches are opened wide—so when something actually goes wrong, they’re the ones who change the rules first…

If, from the beginning, royalties had been treated like an “optional tip” rather than moral blackmail, maybe there wouldn’t be so much mutual bickering now. Every time I see the unlock calendar being pulled up again, and everyone fixates on the sell-pressure anxiety, I feel even more strongly that income design shouldn’t all be staked on a single switch—especially one that can be changed at any time. Anyway, before I buy, I’ll definitely check permissions, upgrades, and oracles first, so I don’t end up discovering that the royalties weren’t paid after all, while the rules are rewritten with a single click.
