Canada proposed a nationwide ban on crypto ATMs in its Spring Economic Update as part of a fraud and money-laundering crackdown. The government said the machines are a primary method for scammers to defraud victims and for criminals to place illicit cash. A 2023 FINTRAC analysis found bitcoin ATMs are likely to remain the main method fraudsters use to collect and launder victim funds.
