OpenAI to Gradually Transition from NVIDIA GPUs to Amazon's Trainium on Bedrock

According to monitoring by Dongcha Beating, Garman confirmed in the same interview that OpenAI models on Bedrock will operate in a mixed environment of NVIDIA GPUs and Amazon’s self-developed chip Trainium, with a gradual shift towards Trainium in the future. Altman expressed excitement about this transition. Garman humorously remarked that the name Trainium was a misnomer: although it can handle both training and inference, the primary use case will still be inference, yet it was named a training chip. However, he believes that the chip brand is not important to the vast majority of customers, as users interact with AI through an interface, not the chip itself. Altman agreed with this point. When Thompson inquired whether Bedrock Managed Agents would integrate models beyond OpenAI in the future, Garman did not provide a direct answer, stating only that they are currently focused on collaborating with OpenAI, and ‘fullness of time is a long time’.
