The U.S.-Iran maritime standoff continues; prospects for negotiations are uncertain

A deputy commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said that Iran has achieved absolute control of the Strait of Hormuz and has demanded that passing vessels pay tolls. On April 28, local time, the United States announced sanctions against 35 Iranian-related entities and individuals, accusing them of helping evade sanctions and providing funding support to Iran.
