Google suddenly withdraws from the U.S. Department of Defense drone swarm technology bidding
Golden Finance reports that on April 29, according to insiders, after Google successfully qualified for the Pentagon’s $100 million voice-controlled autonomous drone swarm technology bid, it suddenly withdrew from the competition. Another insider said the company informed the U.S. government on February 11 that it would no longer participate in the program intended to develop drone swarm control technology, even though the program had only been submitted a few weeks earlier. Relevant records show that the decision was made after an internal ethical review within the company. The records also show that when Google, under Alphabe, withdrew from the project, the official reason it gave was a lack of “resources.” The records indicate that several Google employees involved in the project were disappointed by the decision to withdraw from the bid, but hundreds of Google AI researchers have strongly opposed the company’s use of cutting-edge technology for confidential military purposes.
