I just saw that Shanghai has just released something quite interesting for the video game and e-sports industry. The city officially issued the "Measures to Support the Development of the Gaming and Electronic Sports Industry," and honestly, this could significantly change the landscape.

What caught my attention is that they’re not just talking about money or traditional subsidies. They’re putting concrete things on the table: they will support companies to research and develop large-scale AI technologies, blockchain, big data analytics, IoT, cloud computing, and all those tools that studios need to create modern games. Graphics engines, 3D modeling software, all of that is included.

But what really interests me is how they’re pushing the application of blockchain. It’s not just theory. They’re talking about real use cases: copyright registration, intellectual property protection, transactions, and settlements. This is important because it means they see blockchain as a practical tool for e-sports, not just a passing trend.

Additionally, they’re promoting collaborations between game developers and hardware manufacturers. That opens the door to multiple platforms, more devices, more opportunities. It’s the kind of ecosystem that the e-sports industry needs to truly grow.

The truth is, Shanghai is being quite strategic here. While other places are still debating whether e-sports are legitimate, they’re already building the infrastructure for the industry to scale. If this is executed well, it could position Shanghai as a serious hub for gaming and e-sports in Asia.
