Sun Ke, as the only son of Sun Yat-sen, once held high positions in the Kuomintang. In 1949, he refused to follow Chiang Kai-shek to Taiwan and was angrily rebuked by Chiang. He first went to Hong Kong, then traveled through Europe, and in 1952 settled in the United States, living a frugal life and withdrawing from politics, spending his days organizing Sun Yat-sen's manuscripts.

In 1965, he returned to Taiwan, serving as an advisor to the Presidential Office and as the President of the Examination Yuan among other honorary positions. He passed away in Taiwan in 1973.
