Bloomberg CTO: AI chat interfaces will replace traditional terminals, with 125k users already in beta testing
BJI News reports that Bloomberg’s Chief Technology Officer, Shawn Edwards, said in an interview with Wired that Bloomberg is testing a chat-bot-style interface called askb and plans to fully replace the traditional Bloomberg Terminal operation method. askb is built on multiple language models. Users can ask investment theses directly in natural language—for example, “How do the Iran war and changes in oil prices affect my investment portfolio?” The system then synthesizes multi-dimensional data and provides an analysis within a few minutes. The beta version has been opened to about one-third of Terminal users—approximately 125,000 people. He noted that although graphical interfaces will not disappear, analysis and workflows will begin with askb. askb supports creating workflow templates and setting time-based or condition-based triggers. Edwards emphasized that Bloomberg never provides buy or sell signals; users always make independent decisions, with verification added at every step to prevent hallucinations.
