Last night at a nightclub in Wuhan, a friend ordered a gogo dancer, claiming to be a college student from Wuhan University of Technology, who couldn't afford tuition at home and was doing this to make money. I initially thought it was just a line, but after adding him, I found that his Moments were all about classes, workouts, and photos of national scholarships. He said he usually comes to work right after evening self-study, and if he has an 8 a.m. class the next day, he doesn't come. He can't afford to fall behind in his major courses because he plans to take the graduate entrance exam next year to get into a 985 university. I asked what he was studying, and he said biology. Then I asked him which complex in the mitochondrial respiratory chain is a proton pump. He said it was Complex V, also called ATP synthase. I then toasted him with a glass of wine, and when I left, I added an extra 200 yuan tip.

Do not underestimate the youth in poverty! Hardworking people, even in nightclubs, are still shining.
