Saipan woman sentenced to 71 months for Bitcoin scam targeting elderly victims
Golden Finance reports that on April 28th, a woman from Saipan was sentenced to 71 months in prison by a U.S. federal court for involvement in a Bitcoin-related scam targeting multiple elderly victims.
According to a statement released by the U.S. Department of Justice on Monday, Sze Man Yu Inos (also known as “Yuki”) was convicted of defrauding multiple victims through telecommunications scams.
Prosecutors stated that the 30-year-old scammer targeted elderly women mainly on Saipan and Guam between November 2020 and January 2022, falsely claiming to come from a wealthy Chinese family and claiming success in Bitcoin investments.
After establishing emotional connections with the victims—she often told them, “You are like my mother”—Yuki exploited this trust to induce them to invest in Bitcoin under false pretenses. According to the statement, she later expanded this scam to other victims in Washington state and California.
