Solana introduces Falcon, a quantum solution to support high throughput

Abstract generation in progress

CryptoWorld news reports that two major Solana validator clients have implemented a test version of the post-quantum signature solution Falcon to help prepare the Solana network for future quantum threats. Falcon is considered the smallest signature solution in the standards of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and is designed to maintain Solana’s high-throughput capability. Anza and Firedancer said that Falcon is intended for “high-throughput blockchain use” and can be activated when necessary to address the “Q-day” when quantum computers might break public-key cryptography. Jump Crypto said that Falcon-512 is built to generate the smallest signatures, that signature verification “is not complex to implement,” and that signatures are executed off-chain. After independent research, Anza and Firedancer concluded that quantum readiness is necessary.
