Chinese Representative: China will continue to promote the steady and long-term development of the global humanitarian mine clearance effort

On the fourth anniversary of the Global Security Initiative, the Chinese Permanent Mission to Geneva held a themed event titled “Strengthening Humanitarian Mine Clearance Operations and Promoting Global Common Security” at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, on the 21st. Chinese Disarmament Ambassador Shen Jian said that China will continue to practice the Global Security Initiative and support and advance global humanitarian mine clearance in a steady and sound manner.

Shen Jian said that the Global Security Initiative calls for adhering to a security approach that is common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable, and it has clearly listed “actively carrying out international cooperation and assistance in humanitarian mine clearance” as a key direction for cooperation. He urged the international community to provide more help within their means to countries affected by landmines, and to offer China’s solutions, along with China’s wisdom, to help address global security predicaments such as humanitarian issues caused by landmines, thereby contributing to resolving global security challenges.

Shen Jian said that China regards humanitarian mine clearance cooperation and assistance as an important measure to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and to implement the Global Security Initiative. China has always been an active advocate and a steadfast doer of global humanitarian mine clearance. Over the years, through a variety of approaches including material assistance, personnel training, on-site ordnance clearance, and dispatching experts, China has provided support to more than 40 countries, trained over 1,000 professionals, restored more than 200,000 square meters of land to new life, and enabled millions of people to escape threats and regain space for safety and development. China will continue to practice the Global Security Initiative, constantly deepen pragmatic cooperation with landmine-affected countries, and support and advance global humanitarian mine clearance in a steady and sound manner.

A representative of the Ministry of National Defense of China attended the event and introduced China’s specific practices and results in humanitarian mine clearance cooperation. Representatives from the permanent missions of multiple countries to Geneva and from international organizations also attended. Lao Permanent Representative to Geneva Dāwī and Logan, head of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining, and other attending guests spoke highly of China’s positive contributions to global humanitarian mine clearance and expressed the expectation that China will continue to play a leading role, injecting more momentum into promoting global common security.
