The Chinese government could face action from the Trump administration if it withdraws from the Meta–Manus agreement ⚡️

Meta’s acquisition of the AI startup Manus appeared to be finalized since the end of 2025, but it was suddenly “blocked” by the Chinese authorities. Even though Meta has spent $2 billion and completed the takeover, China still demands the cancellation of the entire transaction and bans all forms of foreign investment in this project.
The reason is that China is increasingly tightening control over sensitive technology, especially AI. Although Manus has moved its headquarters to Singapore and restructured to “get around the law,” it is still viewed as being linked to strategic technology. What’s more, the two founders were even held in China after working with regulatory agencies.
Against the backdrop of escalating US–China technology tensions, both sides are “making their moves”: China restricts funding and technology from the US, while the US tightens chip controls and investments into China’s AI. If the Meta–Manus deal cannot be resolved satisfactorily, it could become a new flashpoint, triggering a strong response from the Trump administration.
This is no longer just a business deal—it is a power struggle in technology between two superpowers.
