Lately everyone keeps arguing every day about who has the higher TPS on L2, who charges less in fees, and who offers more subsidies. But instead, a more old-school question popped into my head: the “on-chain data” you see on your phone may already be a bit behind. To put it plainly, you’re not really “watching the chain”—you’re watching a chain of links. Your wallet first asks the RPC, and that RPC might be connected to a certain node/cluster. Many pages then go through an indexing service as well (which organizes the data in advance). If the indexing service hasn’t caught up, the node is still chasing blocks, or the RPC cache hasn’t been refreshed, what you’re seeing is the “truth of the delay.”

A couple of days ago, my mom even asked me: isn’t that just like looking up a package online? How can it still arrive late? I only replied half a sentence: yes—on-chain also needs someone to “record + forward,” it’s not like you click once and the universe synchronizes instantly… Anyway, when you run into “I clearly transferred it, but it hasn’t arrived yet,” don’t panic. Compare it with another RPC or a different browser—chances are it’s not just you mis-clicked.
