U.S. SEC Chair Paul Atkins and CFTC Chair Mike Selig announced at the 2026 Bitcoin Conference that U.S. crypto regulation has entered a “new era.” The SEC and CFTC are in talks to strengthen cooperation on digital assets, and will use joint token classification guidelines to distinguish between digital commodities, collectibles, and tokenized securities. Atkins said that in the coming weeks, the SEC will allow companies to test on-chain tokenization and securitization tools in a regulated environment, while crypto market-structure legislation such as the Clarity Act may see progress in May and is expected to pass in June.
