I just read that the MetaMask Card is now launched across the entire United States — that's really cool. I previously aimed only for a pilot phase, but now the card is available in 49 states, including New York. One of the most interesting things is that funds remain in your wallet until the moment of purchase, without needing to top up on centralized accounts beforehand.
Now there is also a premium version, MetaMask Metal, for $199 per year. For active users, it makes sense: 3% cashback on the first $10,000 of annual spending, zero fees for international transactions, a physical stainless steel card. The standard virtual version offers 1% cashback, but it is free.
Technically, everything is built on Consensys's Linea L2, so gas fees are tiny — often around a cent. It supports USDC, USDT, wETH, and other assets on multiple networks. Security is ensured through Mastercard and KYC verification via Cross River Bank.
For me, the most important thing is self-control. You remain the owner of your keys; the card simply delegates a permitted spending limit. If you lose the card, your seed phrase is not compromised. This changes the approach to how crypto can be spent in everyday life. I think this is a serious step toward integrating Web3 into real-world transactions.
