Check out the interesting move that A16z just made. The company raised $15 billion across five different funds, and according to themselves, this represents more than 18% of all the venture capital allocated in the US in 2025. I mean, that's a lot.
What caught my attention is how they are viewing the future. A16z is betting heavily that AI and cryptocurrencies are the two fundamental architectures that will define the next 100 years of technology. Ben Horowitz, one of the guys leading the operation, was very direct: if America wants to continue leading, it needs to succeed in these two areas.
The numbers show how they are distributing this money: $6.75 billion to scale startups, $1.7 billion in infrastructure, $1.7 billion in applications, $1.176 billion in what they call American Dynamism (defense, housing, supply chain), $700 million in biotech and health, and another $3 billion in other strategies.
But what really makes sense in their speech is the bigger vision. They see AI and cryptocurrencies not as ends in themselves, but as tools that will transform areas that truly matter: biology, health, defense, education, and entertainment. It’s like recognizing that these technologies are the foundation for everything else.
The point they raise is also real: if the US cannot maintain leadership in these key architectures, it loses position as a global tech power. Horowitz even mentioned that they are already seeing signs of this happening in AI and crypto.
It’s a move that shows how the big VC players are viewing the board in 2025 and beyond. A16z is basically signaling that whoever dominates these technologies in the coming years will define the century.
