I just found out that World ID made a significant update this week, and I must admit that some details caught my attention. We are talking about 18 million verified users through Orb spread across more than 160 countries, which is quite impressive.
The most interesting thing is to see how they are applying this in practice. The integration with Tinder is a very creative case - it basically offers a "real person badge" to users, which should increase trust in connections. At the same time, they are working with Zoom to detect deepfakes during calls, ensuring that participants are real humans. And there's more: they developed an event ticketing kit that prevents fraudulent reselling.
On the technical side, things become more robust. They implemented multi-key management, automatic rotation, account recovery, and more secure sessions. But the concept I found most relevant is "Human Continuity" - basically verifying that the same real person remains the same across different interactions, not just checking isolated devices or accounts.
The ecosystem is also growing. Reddit is already using it to filter bots, and companies like Razer and Mythical Games have adopted it in gaming environments. In fact, they launched a standalone World ID app in testing version and opened the SDK for third parties to create their own systems.
Regarding the business model, it’s quite straightforward: they charge applications that connect based on active users, while users continue to use it for free. Fees are handled through on-chain wallets or third-party services, with automatic allocation at the protocol level. It makes sense that platforms like Tinder see value in this, considering how much people care about security and authenticity in dating apps.
