In recent weeks, the crypto community has been actively discussing Magic Eden's decision to close its markets for Bitcoin and EVM chains. At first, it seemed like the platform was disappearing completely, but in reality, the situation is more nuanced. Magic Eden is not ceasing operations entirely — the company is simply shifting focus, which is symptomatic of the entire industry in 2026.
Looking at what’s happening with Magic Eden, I see a classic example of consolidation. Managing a multi-chain empire turned out to be too costly, so the company is returning to its roots — to Solana, where it has always had the most users. The Bitcoin market with its Ordinals and Runes, Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche — all of this is closing down. Instead of spreading resources thin, Magic Eden is betting on a niche segment of crypto entertainment with a new platform, Dicey, for iGaming.
For users, this means acting quickly. You have several critical dates. Bitcoin and EVM NFT trading already ended in March. Starting April 1, the Magic Eden wallet switched to export-only mode — you can no longer receive or send funds. And on May 1 — the final shutdown. The wallet will be removed from app stores, and if you do not save your seed phrase, your assets will be lost forever.
Honestly, this is not just about Magic Eden. Over 20 significant projects in the first half of 2026 announced closures or layoffs. The era of “growth at any cost” is over. Now, only those who focus on one or two areas where they are truly strong will survive. Magic Eden is choosing Solana and gaming, hoping to integrate its ME token into a more profitable ecosystem.
The problem is that the ME price has fallen approximately 80% over the last six months, making it difficult to steer the project back on the right course. But the company clearly believes this is the only way to remain a serious player in the next crypto cycle. If you have assets on the platform, export your seed phrase right now and import it into a compatible wallet — MetaMask for EVM or Xverse for Bitcoin. For Solana assets, it’s better to store valuable NFTs in cold storage. This is one of those moments when you need to be proactive to avoid losing access to your funds.
