Recently, an interesting news has emerged that sheds some light on the future of international payments. Tether has made a strategic investment in the t-0 network, and this move seems quite significant.
The t-0 network is essentially a settlement platform that enables licensed financial institutions to make international payments using USDT. Put simply, it’s important to understand what this network is — it’s a framework that allows banks and fintech companies to send and receive money across borders.
What makes it special is that transactions are recorded on a global ledger where institutions from different countries can send and receive funds in their local currency. This means reduced foreign exchange risk and less need for pre-funded accounts. Settlements are done on a non-cumulative basis, meaning transfers on the blockchain only occur when licensed partners approve them.
James Brownlee, CEO of the t-0 network, said they aim to make borderless economic connectivity a reality. In this approach, USDT acts as a settlement asset among participating institutions.
Tether’s CEO Paolo Ardoino states that the liquidity and global usability of stablecoins make them ideal for institutional payment flows. According to him, the t-0 network simplifies the complexities of international payments by combining real-time payments, cost efficiency, foreign exchange visibility, and global reach.
This investment is part of Tether’s broader effort to support payment and settlement platforms based on stablecoins. It is also significant for regulated financial institutions seeking alternatives to traditional correspondent banking systems. The amount of the investment or valuation has not been disclosed yet.
