I just reviewed what Brad Garlinghouse clarified at the Sydney conference recently, and there is something that many in the XRP community were completely misunderstanding.
It turns out that the idea of the famous 'switch on' that everyone was waiting for is not a single event. Garlinghouse explained that Ripple has been activating hundreds or even thousands of small 'switches' over the years, and that is exactly what creates the real impact.
The 'switch on' narrative emerged back in 2019 when Garlinghouse mentioned in Fortune that banks were ready to move from pilot programs to production with xRapid. But the community took it further, imagining a single moment when everything would explode. Content creators on YouTube and Twitter amplified this, suggesting that one day banks would simply activate XRP on a large scale overnight.
But here’s the interesting part: Garlinghouse clarified that it doesn’t work that way. According to him, every step Ripple has taken, every partnership, every integration, represents a 'switch' being turned on. Some seem small on their own, but together they create momentum.
What caught my attention is that some developments took longer than expected, but Garlinghouse pointed out that real progress is there. More of these 'switches' are being turned on constantly, even if they don’t always make headlines. Since 2023, Ripple has invested 3 billion dollars in acquisitions precisely to connect TradFi with DeFi.
Garlinghouse expressed optimism for 2026 and the years ahead. His point is that when everything finally seems to take off, people will probably realize it wasn’t a single event, but a decade of work slowly building up.
Something else he mentioned is the role of the community. On his world tour, he observed genuine passion, especially in Australia. Community members who correct misinformation and fight FUD are also turning 'switches' on, according to him.
Looking at the current numbers, XRP is trading at $1.42 with a market capitalization of $87.35 billion. It’s interesting to see how the narrative has evolved from that simple idea of the 'switch on' to this more nuanced view of incremental progress. Ripple’s strategy has never depended on a dramatic moment, but on thousands of constant moves that, together, define the overall direction.
