Recently, people keep saying "I saw it on the chain," and I want to point out: what you're actually seeing is just a delayed snapshot pieced together by nodes/RPCs/indexers... For the same transaction, the block height returned by my local node and the public RPC can differ quite a bit, not to mention some indexing services sampling and batch updating to save costs. Basically, you think you're watching a live broadcast, but you're actually watching a replay.

Layer 2 is now arguing over TPS, fees, and subsidies, but these leaderboard data are also mostly relying on a set of "whose indexer is more diligent" pipelines. The most overlooked aspects in these shouting matches are data timeliness and consistency. I need to be reminded: when making strategies or monitoring, don't rely on a single source blindly. At least compare two RPCs, and try to verify key metrics yourself. If it's slow, so be it—don't let the phrase "real-time on the chain" lead you astray.
