Golden Finance reports that on April 27th, well-known analyst Guo Mingchi released the latest industry survey:
OpenAI is collaborating with MediaTek and Qualcomm to develop mobile processors, with Luxshare serving as the exclusive system design and manufacturing partner, expected to mass produce by 2028.
• AI Agents redefine mobile phones:
Users’ goal is not to use a bunch of apps, but to perform tasks and meet various needs through their phones. This fundamentally overturns the current understanding of mobile phones. I made a conceptual design of a mobile interface (. As for the end of the article ), it can be compared with the current one (, taking the iPhone as an example ).
• Why does OpenAI want to make phones?

  1. Only by fully controlling the operating system and hardware can comprehensive AI agent ( proxy ) services be provided.
  2. Only phones have access to all current user states ( state ), which is the most important input information for real-time AI agent inference services ( input ).
  3. It is evident that in the future, phones will still be the devices with the largest scale.
    • Highly integrated cloud and device-side AI:
  4. Phones need to continuously understand user text ( context ), with power consumption, memory layer management, and basic small model operation being key design points for processors.
  5. More complex or high-intensity demands are executed by cloud AI.
    • OpenAI’s advantage lies in consumer brand, accumulated user data over many years, and leading AI models. Phone hardware is already very mature, and OpenAI can collaborate with supply chains for development. In terms of business models, OpenAI may bundle subscription services with hardware sales and establish a new AI agent ecosystem in cooperation with developers.
    • MediaTek and Qualcomm are processor development partners, expected to benefit from replacement demand in the long term:
  6. Specifications and suppliers are expected to be decided by the end of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027.
  7. Taking MediaTek × Google TPU Zebrafish as an example, a single AI chip’s revenue is roughly equivalent to 30–40 AI agent mobile processors. If initially targeting 300–400 million high-end models worldwide annually, the replacement wave will be another strong growth driver.
    • Regardless of how hard Luxshare tries, it is very difficult to surpass Foxconn in the Apple supply chain assembly position. Therefore, this case is very significant for Luxshare, which is expected to benefit from early deployment and become a leading beneficiary in the next mobile generation. (Dongxin News )
