Golden Finance reports that on April 27, during a CBS interview program, 60 Minutes, aired on the afternoon of April 26 local time, U.S. President Donald Trump gave a detailed account of the scene at the time of the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner the day before. Trump said that when the gunfire first started, he did not immediately realize how serious the threat was—he was “not worried”—and instead planned to first observe what was happening. He said that at one point he did not cooperate with the Secret Service’s rapid evacuation, “wanted to see what was happening,” and acknowledged that this behavior may have, to a certain extent, slowed the pace of the Secret Service’s response. As the situation gradually became clearer, the Secret Service instructed him to take protective measures immediately. Trump said that following the Secret Service personnel’s instructions, he and First Lady Melania crouched down to seek safety, and were then escorted away from the banquet area and transferred to a secure location.
