Today (April 4th), China National Nuclear Corporation Zhejiang Jinqimen Nuclear Power Plant’s Hualong One Unit 2 reactor vessel began concrete pouring, marking the full transition of this unit’s construction into the main construction phase. The Jinqimen Nuclear Power Plant Unit 2 adopts China’s indigenously developed third-generation nuclear power technology “Hualong One”, with a designed operational lifespan of 60 years, and is planned to be completed and put into operation by 2031. According to reports, the overall plan for the Jinqimen Nuclear Power Project is to build 6 Hualong One pressurized water reactor units with a capacity of one million kilowatts each. Once completed, the annual power generation will reach 55 billion kWh, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 45 million tons, and will provide strong support for energy and power supply security and green low-carbon transformation in Zhejiang Province and the Yangtze River Delta region. As of now, there are a total of 41 approved Hualong One units under construction or in operation worldwide, making it the most numerous third-generation nuclear power technology among approved and under-construction units globally, and the main reactor type for China’s current nuclear power development.
