Syrian Interim Government Begins Trial of Former Regime's "Key Figures"

According to reports from Syrian state television on the 26th, the Syrian transitional government launched its first public hearing on that day for “core figures” of the Assad regime. The report said that the hearing was held at the Damascus Judicial Palace on that day, focusing on the case of Atif Najib, who is the first defendant to appear in this lawsuit. The next hearing will be held on May 10. According to reports, Atif Najib is a cousin of Bashar al-Assad, the former president of Syria, and previously served as the head of the political security department in Daraa Province.
