Trump's 'Magical Day': Supporting TRUMP Token Holders by Day, Involved in Shooting Incident at WHCA Dinner by Night
On April 26, U.S. President Trump made appearances at two highly controversial events within 24 hours: attending a luncheon for TRUMP token holders at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida during the day, and returning to Washington to attend the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner in the evening, where he was evacuated by the Secret Service due to a shooting incident before his speech. The luncheon for TRUMP token holders was surrounded by controversy, with Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and others having previously called for Congress to investigate whether the Trump family profited from the cryptocurrency project. The Trump family collects transaction fees from each TRUMP token transaction. However, the value of TRUMP has dropped over 95% from its peak in 2025, falling below $3 at one point in early April. During the event, Trump warned the banking industry not to obstruct cryptocurrency legislation, stating, ‘The White House will not let banks destroy the legislative structure of the crypto market.’ After returning to Washington, Trump attended the WHCA dinner for the first time as president, having boycotted the event for four consecutive years during his first term and also missing it in 2025. On the eve of his attendance, over 250 journalists signed an open letter opposing his participation. At 8:35 PM Eastern Time, 5 to 8 gunshots were heard near the main security checkpoint outside the banquet hall, leading to Trump’s evacuation by the Secret Service before he could deliver his planned ‘very intense’ speech. A Secret Service agent was unharmed due to their bulletproof vest, and a suspect was arrested, with Trump and his cabinet members uninjured. Following the incident, Trump returned to the White House to hold a press conference, calling for ‘peaceful resolution of differences’ and stating that the dinner would be rescheduled within 30 days. When asked why such incidents keep occurring, he remarked, ‘The most influential and capable people will be targeted. I don’t want to say this, but I feel honored.’ Trump’s ‘two events in one day’ represent the most controversial themes of his second term—conflicts of interest in cryptocurrency business and the strained relationship between the White House and the media. The evening’s shooting incident added a third underlying concern regarding his personal safety atop these controversies.
