PSC ruling requires data centers to cover costs of new We Energies power generation

Abstract generation in progress

Wisconsin utility regulators have ruled that data centers in We Energies’ service area must fully cover the costs of any new power generation built to serve them. This decision rejects a proposal that would have passed a portion of these costs onto general ratepayers, aiming to protect existing customers from undue financial burden and stranded asset risks. Both We Energies and Microsoft, a major data center client, supported the ruling, stating their commitment to paying for their energy needs.
