Two South Korean military officers sentenced to 2 years for illegal operation of a crypto exchange and assisting in drug money laundering

Mars Finance News, according to Yonhap News Agency, two active-duty Korean Army special operations command non-commissioned officers in their 30s were sentenced on April 26 by Changwon District Court to two years in prison each and fined 54.69 million Korean won for operating unreported virtual asset exchanges illegally during their service and assisting in drug trafficking money laundering.
Investigations show that the defendants operated illegal trading platforms via Telegram from 2023 to 2024, assisting buyers 90 times in converting approximately 54.69 million Korean won worth of drug proceeds into virtual currency and transferring them to sellers.
