According to Hong Kong 01, Hong Kong police recently cracked a series of scams targeting overseas mainland students. The scam group impersonated mainland officials, luring victims to Hong Kong to purchase gold grains as a deposit, then melting down the stolen gold grains and cashing out as cash or virtual currency to launder the funds. It is reported that since this year, the police have received a total of 7 similar reports, involving approximately 7 million Hong Kong dollars. Currently, the police have detained 4 suspects involved in the case and recovered about 5 million Hong Kong dollars in stolen money and valuables.
