According to Hong Kong 01, Hong Kong police have recently solved a chain fraud case targeting overseas mainland students. The fraud syndicate impersonated mainland officials, luring victims to Hong Kong to purchase gold bars as a deposit, and then melting the fraudulently obtained gold bars and cashing them out into cash or virtual currency to transfer and launder the funds. It is reported that since this year, the police have received 7 reports of similar cases in total, with a total amount involved of about 7 million Hong Kong dollars. At present, the police have cumulatively arrested 4 suspects involved in the case and recovered about 5 million Hong Kong dollars in stolen proceeds and assets.
